The adsorption of cadmium ions on activated carbon cloth

The adsorption of Cd(Ⅱ) ions from aqueous solutions on cellulose based activated carbon cloth was studied. Surface chemistry of the activated cloth was modified by air, HNO_3 and H_2O_2 treatment in order to develop different oxygen functional groups. The oxygen functionality of the carbon studied was analysed by the TGA and selective neutralization method, and the correlation between Cd(Ⅱ) ion adsorbability and the extent and kind of oxygen groups on the carbon surface was established.
