National technologies are a major force in maintaining the economic viability of nations. A conceptual model of the evolution of national technologies is developed and illustrated. The model helps in understanding the various processes in the successful development and evolution of national technologies, the importance of technology transfer to these processes and the management principles for successfully guiding these processes.
