Peter Fisk, 1929-2009

Peter Fisk graduated with a degree in economics and statistics from the London School of Economics in 1953. He spent 2 years as a research assistant to Arthur Pigou in the Department of Applied Economics at the University of Cambridge. He related two of his roles there. One was that he was to help to maintain an economic model of the British economy-only this model was an analogue model, of tubes and valves filled with water, and his job was to repair the leaks! His other role was, essentially, that of a minder to intercept mail to ensure that nothing inappropriate was submitted for publication. There then followed periods in Aberdeen, the University of New South Wales and Birmingham before moving to the Department of Statistics at the University of Edinburgh in 1967.
