George Vaughan Dyke, November 10th, 1921-March 29th, 2012

George Dyke was born in Staffordshire and educated at Wolverhampton Royal Grammar School. From there he went as a scholar to Balliol College, Oxford, in 1939, taking first-class Honours in mathematics moderations in 1940. He then began war service in the Royal Navy, as an Observer in the Fleet Air Arm. He returned to Oxford in 1945, and graduated with first-class Honours in mathematics in 1947.
