The Politics of Belonging in India: Becoming Adviasi

This, the forty-third volume in Routledge's ambitious Contemporary South Asia series, needs to be read alongside Volume 16, Dispossession and Resistance in India (2010), for both concern the struggles of the Adivasi communities. But this one hardly engages with the current civil war raging in eastern and central India, its epicentre Chhattisgarh, and has in consequence a curiously disembodied feel to it. There is little on the invasion of global and Indian capital into the forest areas. No doubt the editors are right to disengage this Indian story from that of a worldwide indigenous people's movement.
