Oxford's Very Short Introductions series really does prove that good things come in small packages. This book is part of that series, designed to outline subjects in stimulating ways to new readers. Fischhoff and Kadvany succeed admirably in their task. From the perspective of decision theory and decision behaviour research, they present how social and psychological contexts define risks and they describe the role of science in analysing them. They use diverse everyday and historical examples of hazards and their interpretations.
