Globalization Trends and Regional Development: Dynamics of FDI and Human Capital Flows

This book contains 10 interesting papers organized in three different parts analyzing new trends in globalization, foreign direct investment, and migration flows. In a coherent framework, it investigates the challenges that emerge for regional economic growth in Europe when faced with the ongoing reshaping of the global economy, which the editors claim is qualitative rather than quantitative. The current phase of economic globalization is considered to no longer simply affect the division of labor between emerging and advanced economies. And it is no longer confined to the manufacturing industries. Instead, it is characterized by the decentralization of intertwined manufacturing and service functions, offshoring and outsourcing of service functions, and the globalization of particular tasks within sectors rather than whole sectors.
