摘要

It has from time to time been observed that, whilst many enthusiasts obsess about the exterior of transport vehicles, the interior environment, although the most important to passengers, usually goes unnoticed. Now the literally fundamental basis of London Underground and road transport travel - the seat cover patterns - receive their full due. The author's name will be known to many as writer of the Jim Stringer railway detective novels, and his writing skills have enabled what could have been a dull niche monograph to be witty and entertaining as well as informative, interspersing descriptions of the various designs with accounts of the manufacture of moquette and asides both factual and (occasionally) quirky. Of course, given the strong LT design tradition, most of the patterns, all illustrated in colour, are well worth looking at with the fresh eyes which this book will inspire. You will also be glad you don't have to sit on plastic as in Provence or New York. For those willing to give a chance to a novel topic (for example, those inspired by Tiles of the Unexpected (2007) to examine Underground tiling), this will be well worth a browse.
