The Life and Times of Levi Williams Lindop, Machinery Superintendent, Ellesmere Port Boatyard, 1892-1922

Levi Lindop (1860-1935) was one of the well-known Cheshire Lindops. He trained as a fitter and lathe turner at the LNWR Crewe Works and, after a short period working with the Dundalk, Newry & Greenore Railway in Ireland, joined the Shropshire Union Railway & Canal Company, rising to the position of Machinery Superintendent at their Ellesmere Port and Chester Yards: he retired when the Ellesmere Port boatyard was taken over by the Manchester Ship Canal Company. He thus worked at the boatyard during challenging times related to the First World War, changing working practices and technical and political developments in the engineering field.
