The Longmoor Military Railway: A New History, Volume 1, 1903-1939

Known as the Woolmer Instructional Military Railway for virtually the whole of the duration of this volume, the military training railway built around Longmoor camp was, for nearly 70 years, pivotal to training soldiers in the wide range of skills necessary to running a railway in war zones. After an introduction to military railways operated in the 19th century, this book charts the stumbling origins of the railway with its core standard gauge route from the specially built L&SWR branch line to Bordon to 'a swamp' at Longmoor.
