Volume One was well received (RCHS Journal no 235 (July 2019), p 503) and it was noted how London and its District Railway had grown together, but there had always been problems in raising the vast amounts of capital required. Volume Two continues the story when American finance poured in which greatly assisted electrification and modernisation of its signalling and rolling stock. There was a final battle with the Metropolitan over the electric system to be adopted and this is well covered.
