摘要

There is little doubt that the U.S. commercial model of radio broadcasting has had an impact on stations around the world. Whereas previously governments across the globe may have chosen to more closely control the radio broadcast, and others leaned towards a paternalistic approach ala BBC, by the 1990s tight formats, morning zoos, and often higher commercial loads were taking over as listeners drifted to the stations (legal or otherwise) that could grab their attention. In Singapore, for example, listeners found new and different radio signals from across the Straits in the form of Batam Indonesia's ZOO and Coast FM, stations with U.S.-style DJs (a few from the Philippines actually), prompting the small "red dot" nation to create two stations to compete, Perfect 10 and Class 95—stations that would be at home in most U.S. cities.
