Out on the Wire: The Storytelling Secrets of the New Masters of Radio

A couple of weeks prior to the release of Jessica Abel's illustrated book, Out on the Wire: The Storytelling Secrets of the New Masters of Radio (August 2015), she agreed to an interview with JRAM. It was close to our editorial deadline, but being able to highlight her work seemed so fitting to our podcasting symposium. I was familiar with her non-fiction work prior to our conversation; as cartoonist, educator and writer, she has authored several texts on art and now two in radio. She also brings to the table, more than a dozen years of teaching experience. Her other works, as in her science fiction comics series that was released in early 2015, illustrate (no pun intended) the span of her talent. She currently lives in France with her husband, cartoonist Matt Madden, and two children. Abel and Madden have been collaborating on various projects. Her works are noted in her biography on her Web site, and there are plenty of resources there, as well as information about her launch of a new podcast series this fall related to Out on the Wire, the book. Since 2012, Abel and Madden have been on a residency at La Maison des Auteurs in Angouleme which will conclude in 2016.
