A New Look at the Future of Quality

ASQ has conducted seven Future of Quality Studies beginning in 1996 and continuing in 1999, 2002, 2005, 2008, 2011, and 2015. The first six studies focused on identifying the key forces that are most likely to shape the future of quality and developing alternative scenarios describing how these forces might unfold. Finally, the previous studies discussed implications of the scenarios for organizations, the quality field, and for quality professionals. A summary of those studies is presented in the online supplement to this article. The 2015 Future of Quality Study offers a new twist with 12 essays from experts in various fields from across the world. ASQ CEO William Troy explains, "I wanted you to hear these experts in their own voices, talking about the things they have studied, known, and in many cases, loved. To get them to share their thoughts, we simply asked them, 'Tell us about the future of the world you know best.'"
