Machiavellian democracy

In Machiavellian Democracy, University of Chicago, political theorist John P. McCormick sets out to examine what he considers to be the key problem in modern democracies, particularly in the USA: lack of accountability. This lack of account-ability, he argues, has led to the increasing ability of economic - and political -elites to govern at the expense of the general populace. How is this pattern of elite domination to be countered? Digging deep within the writings of sixteenth century, political theorist Niccolo Machiavelli, McCormick offers a novel - and perhaps unorthodox - solution to the problem.
