The microbending losses induced by temperature drop, and axial strain in double-coated optical fibers have been analyzed by thermoelastic approach. The microbending loss is dominated by the lateral pressure in the glass fiber. To minimize such microbending loss, it is found that the Young's modulus of primary coating and the Poisson's ratio of secondary coating should be decreased; but the Poisson's ratio of secondary coating should be increased. On the other hand, the selection of the thickness and Young's modulus of secondary coating is based on the consideration of material's strength.
