摘要

One of the most interesting facets of Gwyn Griffiths' predictive paper on the future of ocean science AUV technology was the final section that looked at the technical developments needed if the vehicles are to fulfill their potential. The first part considered energy sources. Breakthroughs on the price-performance of advanced primary batteries would be of immediate benefit to AUVs. Primary cells such as lithium carbon monofluoride have a specific energy some five times that of manganese alkaline primary or lithium ion secondary batteries. However, these come at a cost ? around EUD800 per kWh and perceived opinion suggests that the high costs are unlikely to change over the next 5 years.
