摘要

When UCMR-3 testing revealed trace amounts of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in the Kennebunk River Well, the Kennebunk, Kennebunkport & Wells Water District worked with regulatory agencies to identify the source of the contamination. Research determined that the pollution originated from DEP-approved spreading of bio-ash and sludge many years prior on nearby farmland. The District installed a pilot removal facility using granular activated carbon (GAC) that eventually became permanent, allowing the reopening of the well.
