摘要

Whilst considering the impact of multiculturalism policies that promote shared identity throughout Canada, Winter examines the sociocultural discourse among majority, minority and immigrant groups. She aims to demonstrate that resolving issues related to ethnocultural inequalities is accomplished through the identification of real or imagined third-party outsiders who exhibit multicultural identity. She underpins this by integrating a neo-Weberian theoretical framework and discourses from central Canadian English-language newspapers so as to illuminate pluralist group formation. The book is divided into four parts that interrelate pluralism, multiculturalism and ethnicity within the context of negotiating Canadian national identity.
