Chinese discourse studies in media and politics: theories, concepts and methodologies

Although published five years apart, these two volumes possess certain similarities in terms of research topics and methodology, showcasing cutting-edge Chinese discourse studies from theoretical, conceptual and methodological dimensions. They shed new light on our understanding of the role of language in the transformations of Chinese society and identity. The findings that emerged from these studies have important implications for future research in Chinese discourse analysis, such as in the employment of cultural and sociolinguistic approaches to examine discourses in a Chinese context.Despite a few typographical errors and a slightly confusing Chinese naming system, Contemporary Chinese Discourse and Social Practice in China is comprehensive in its research topics. An eBook version on the John Benjamins e-Platform also makes it accessible to a broader audience. Brand China in the Media only exists in hardback at the time of writing, though individual chapters can be accessed via the Critical Arts journal homepage. Both books are ideally suited to scholars, students and policymakers interested in Chinese area, discourse, cultural, media and communication studies.
