What a difference three years make, especially when a fine scholar like Thomas Rid of King's College switches from a top academic press (Oxford published his Cyber War Will Not Take Place in 2013) to a publisher that appeals to a broader audience (W.W. Norton offered Rise of the Machines in 2016). By itself, each book is well worth reading, but as a pair they are even more instructive on many points, including how we should not think about cyberwar.
