Apatitic structure has been investigated as a potential host matrix for cesium issued from high level nuclear wastes. The aqueous behavior of such a substituted silicate compound revealed poor properties to retain this element. They were mainly due to the presence of Cs-bearing quickly soluble phases. Attempts to synthesize materials with different composition or cesium content showed that this element was still distributed between several phases. Particularly, in the case of calcium compounds, a new phosphate, CaCsNd(PO4)2, was usually formed when cesium was added and remained in the system after being exposed to a leach test procedure.
