Mary Lynette Larsgaard: Mapping a Life Journey

Not many people know before they are twenty that they want to be a map librarian. Mary Lynette Larsgaard did. Few professionals have so dedicated their entire careers to maps and global imagery to the extent that Mary has. Her professional story is one worth preserving not only for a record of the experience but also for the historical aspect in that, like two other recent retirees-David Cobb (see Journal of Map & Geography Libraries, 5:2) and Alice Hudson (see upcoming issue)-Mary played a key role in shaping map librarianship as we know it today. I hope that you will take the time to read this full interview as it is truly a life journey in maps. As with any good map however, not everything about the landscape is shown; that said, the direction taken is not only clearly visible but remarkable.
