For many years now, local public transport security requirements in metropolitan areas have involved more than just offence statistics. Passengers' perception of security, media coverage and the new challenges posed by the Internet need to be met with innovative solutions applied across the board. In modem metropolitan areas, close networking between all of the players -companies, authorities and transport policy-makers - provides a sound basis for effective and integrated security programmes.
