Low-carbon & low-impact waterborne transport operations London workshop, UITP Waterborne Transport Committee

UlTP's Waterborne Transport Committee held a workshop on low-carbon and low-impact waterborne transport operations on 21-22 October in London. Hosted by London River Services (TfL), the workshop welcomed more than 40 participants from every corner of Europe as well as from Dubai, Australia, Africa, Bermuda and North America. The workshop provided a forum to present different technologies and methods to reduce the impact of navigation on the marine environment. Although waterborne transport has historically been considered a niche mode of travel, it is increasingly being seen as an integral part of the urban transport chain. Today, many waterborne systems transport a significant number of passengers and provide alternatives to land transport, thus complementing the normal transport network by providing connections to areas difficult to access by land.
