Vantankhah's ingeniously neat simplification of Eq. (20) is greatly appreciated. He also points out that when comparing optimal sections (that is, the shapes that require the least flow area for a specified value of (1), there is little difference between type Arning from 0 to 1 is shown in Fig. 1. Vantankhah further shows that the difference remains small when the side-slope ratio (horizontal to vertical) m is specified as long as m>0.4. For these reasons, the general section shape (given by the value of k) can be selected based on economic considerations, local preferences, or other criteria, such as constructability issues.
