RECENT EVENTS IN EU INTERNET LAW

Co-regulation (a specific combination of state and non-state regulation) is regarded by many as a means to achieve better regulation and handing back responsibility to society. This should be particularly true in online environments, where fast technological changes and decentralized knowledge represent a challenge for traditionally slow legislation processes. The European Commission ordered a study in December 2005 to assess the impact and effectiveness of co-regulation in the media sector. On February 6, 2007, Viviane Reding (the EU Commissioner for Information Society and Media) presented the results of this study.
