THE CONTROL BY HND RIGHTS OF THE DATA SUBJECT UNDER THE GDPR

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) creates several obligations for "control-lers" and "processors" of "personal data." The regu-lation replaced the "Data Protection Directive" and its national implementations on May 25, 2018. It has been adopted to strengthen the protection of personal data. However, it will only lead to this result if the controllers and processors comply with their obligations. Under both the Data Protection Directive and the GDPR, enforcement largely depends on the national supervisory authorities. In practice, this supervision does not guarantee an effective protection of personal data. The GDPR empowers the "data subject" in order to improve this protection. It creates and strengthens several rights that grant him control over the "processing" of his personal data. This control allows him to better decide who is authorized to process his data and the purposes for which this is permitted.
