摘要

How open is an economy to international trade and globalization is always of great interests to economists and policy makers. In the growth literature, we would like to know whether a more open economy grows faster (Frankel and Romer, 1999; Rodriguez and Rodrik, 2001; Dollar and Kraay, 2003). The answer to this question will provide the foundation for promoting trade liberalization or even free trade as an engine for growth. In the wages and employment literature, we would like to understand whether trade liberalization leads to growing wage inequality between skilled and unskilled workers, and even the off-shoring of low wage jobs (Feenstra and Hanson, 1998).
