In recent years, fixed-network carriers have suffered drastic drops in revenue. Now, however, high growth rates in broadband access are giving carriers a much more optimistic view of the market. New interactive TV offerings show how fixed-network carriers can compete with cable operators. This paper outlines on the one hand the chances and opportunities for carriers offering such new services, and on the other hand new challenges related to the content issue, changes in the value chain and the 'war' between the different codec formats.
