DESIGNING A NEW 8K ULTRA HIGH DEFINITION TELEVISION 2 STANDARD

While consumers are currently being sold into the benefits of 4K TV, 8K TV is already on the horizon and is the target for the ultimate 2D TV format. Both4K and 8K are classed as Ultra High Definition Television (UHDTV) -although 8K is sometimes referred to as Super-Hi Vision (SHV). So what will the development of the 8K UHDTV2 standard mean? Beyond simply delivering bigger screens and higher definition, important factors such as colour, tone rendition and motion portrayal will be crucial in delivering the enhanced visual experience. This article reviews this new standard and describes some of the 8K prototype and trial activities.
