5G BUSINESS MODELS- CHALLENGES, IMPACTS AND CHOICES FOR MOBILE NETWORK OPERATORS

A main concern among MNOs is how to monetise 5G investments in a world where data is commoditising and the virtualisation and software control of networks is increasing competition from different actors. In addition, coping with increasing network capacity requires MNOs to invest massively in network infrastructure in addition to their bids for spectrum licenses. Beyond investment, European MNOs face the challenges of political and regulatory uncertainty and cooperation with an increasing number of potential competitors.
