The staple principle of the quadrature electromagnetic method in the geophysics is researched, on this basis, a trace metal detection technology is developed, and the hardware consists of a "double-D", an instrument host. An process algorithm that eliminates the primary field and soil background field with axis rotation in the adaptive learning of the soil background process is advanced, which enhances the soil adaptive ability and trace metal detection sensitivity for variety of soils. The instrument is tested in three typical background environments (air, sand and magnetic soil) in which only 1g iron is contained, and each test includes profile curve and detection performance. The consequences indicate that its performance is close to the international mainstream apparatuses that have similar functions, so the design is proved to be feasible.
