This paper presents the design and performance evaluationof the proposed eight detention pondsto alleviate the severe flooding occurring inthe 19.08 ha catchment area of Damoria Bridge in Ludhiana.Punjab.SWMM (v 5.1) has been used for sizingthe detention ponds for both water quality and quantity capture by simulating the flows from different storm events for subsequent release to the receiving stream (Budha Nallah) for various control options. It was found that the volume ofthe proposed detention ponds ranged from 10390 m3 to 16720 m~3, and the flood peaks werereduced by 77 % to 90 % respectively, and lagged by 46 minutesto 68 minutes respectively.
