摘要

Domestic as well as industrial sewage has polluted almost all the Indian rivers. River pollution has been one of the main issues in the environmental status of side villages and urban area on banks of Narmada River. This study was undertaken to find out the reduction of pollution of Narmada River at Maheshwar town in M.P. due to Ahilya Fort located at the bank of Narmada River by adopting Decentralised Waste Water System (DEWATS). The water test results of the inlet and outlet of treatment system are as per the standard permissible limits. It indicates that the DEWATS system is successful and reliable option and can be adopted at institute level. The Decentalised treatment works to prevent the institutional sewage to discharge in to the river Narmada. Institute like hotels has waste water with higher biochemical oxygen demand than the domestic sewage which results in high pollution of rivers.
