Discussion of 'Dealing with Zero Flows in Solving the Nonlinear Equations for Water Distribution Systems' by Sylvan Elhay and Angus R. Simpson

To discuss the limits of applicability of the regularization method and convergence error proposed in the paper under discussion, we would like to show convergence data for two networks with zero flows. Network 1 is made from Network 1 of the original paper by connecting two additional pipes (L_j = 1,000 m, D_j = 250 mm, C_j = 120) in parallel with each of Pipes 2, 6, and 9. Network 2 is Network 1 of the original paper where a demand of 80 L/s at Node 8 is replaced with two demands of 40 L/s at Nodes 6 and 7.
