The authors thank the discusser for the comments. The authors agree that a more general solution of the case containing an embedded dam with unequal end cutoffs and an upstream blanket has been solved by Fil'chakov (1959, 1960). However, for the case in the original paper, no design charts are available in the aforementioned references. Though not explicitly stated, the current paper has been written to appeal to design engineers/practitioners. The original paper provides design charts and simplified equations, which serve as handy tools for calculating the seepage characteristics. King (1967) presented a solution for a case of an embedded dam without any cutoffs, which is a particular case of the solution provided by Fil'chakov.
