The purpose of the study is to examine the core competencies of management trainees in the hospitality industry. Preferred management trainee core competencies are compared between industries and educational institutions, and fuzzy linguistic and grey situation decision-making models are applied to rank the importance of each core competency. The results indicate that preferred core competencies differ substantially between hospitality managers and scholars. Preliminary phases of the study yield the development of an instrument for determining the importance of certain core competencies in newly-hired management trainees. Finally, suggestions are given for hospitality and educational institutions attempting to improve the preparation of individuals for successful entry into the hospitality and tourism industry.View full textDownload full textKEYWORDSManagement trainee, core competencies, selection, grey situation decision-makingRelated var addthis_config = { ui_cobrand: "Taylor & Francis Online", services_compact: "citeulike, netvibes, twitter, technorati, delicious, linkedin, facebook, stumbleupon, digg, google, more", pubid: "ra-4dff56cd6bb1830b" }; Add to shortlist Link Permalink http://dx.doi.org/10.1080/15332845.2010.500166
