摘要

Just as housing and community development (HCD) agencies have changed throughout the years, shifting tactics and priorities in order to continue to serve their residents and communities, so have the roles of those who oversee them: the commissioners. In today's world of increasing federal disinvestment, rising energy costs and subprime mortgage meltdowns, those who administer HCD programs must continue to fulfill their mission, while faced with dwindling funds and crumbling infrastructure. But these are not the only responsibilities of commissioners; they must also act as representatives of and advocates for the agency, communicating with the media and the community, bringing their and concerns to their state and federal representatives and keeping housing issues in the forefront. The challenge continues.
