Johnson Controls announced the com-I mencement of construction for the largest solar photovoltaic (PV) installation in the Tampa (Fla.) area with the Tampa Housing Authority. The 330 kW generating system will help provide clean, renewable energy to supplement the energy requirements for the JL Young elderly and disabled affordable housing development, saving the housing authority an estimated $43,000 per year in electricity costs. The $2.6 million project, funded in part by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), also includes roof repairs and long-term roof warranties for all of the buildings in the development, which includes 450 housing units; it will also employ seven housing authority residents.
