Temple University committed to providing $1 million in cash and in-kind resources for educational programs and career training for the Norris Homes community in Philadelphia. The money will supplement a $30 million Choice Neighborhoods Implementation (CNI) grant from the Department of Housing and Urban Development. Temple will also, through a partnership with the College of Education and the Center for Social Policy and Community Development in the College of Health Professions and Social Work, provide support to neighborhood schools and help high school students prepare for college or the workforce. The university will also hire an educational engagement coordinator and create a pre-K and afternoon school program for neighborhood children; it will also create a college career-readiness program for high school students.
