HUD Releases Homeless Report to Congress

On October 25, HUD released Part 2 of the 2015 Annual Homeless Assessment Report (AHAR) to Congress. The report shows a two percent decline in home-lessness nationwide since 2014, but a greater 13 percent decline since 2007. The AHAR is a yearly two-volume series produced by HUD that informs federal, state, and local policies to address homelessness. Part 1, published in November 2015, offers a snapshot of homelessness through local Point-in-Time (PIT) count data. Part 2 supplements Part 1 by adding 1-year estimates of sheltered homelessness based on Homeless Management Information Systems (HMIS) data. HMIS estimates provide in-depth information on the characteristics and service-use patterns of those within the nation's homeless shelter system during a 12-month period.
