摘要

Urban regeneration is in essence a sustainable endeavour as the built environment needs to respond to the new conditions and requirements caused by changes in the population, social structure and economy. Stouten takes this principle as the key to this book. His ambition has been to offer a comprehensive assessment of the changing regeneration agenda in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, over the past 30 years. He chose the 'Oude Noorden', a representative neighbourhood consisting of over 8,500 dwellings in the nineties, to show the changing urban renewal and urban regeneration strategies from 1975 until now.
