Determining the temperature rise of contact interfaces subject to surface heating is essential to controlling thermally induced failures in manufacturing processes and tribal-ogy. This paper provides a summary of solutions to problems of a stationary/moving half-space or half-plane without/with surface convection. In the first two sections, basic formulations for bodies with negligible surface convection are grouped as explicitly and completely as possible in terms of the Green's function, the influence coefficients, and the frequency response function. In the final section, the influence coefficients are applied to solve surface-heating problems with surface convection. The time required to reach approximately steady state is found for bodies subject to a unit heat flux. The effect of convection is found to be dependent on the Peclet number and location.
