UN Publishes Globally Harmonized System of Classification

The long-awaited Globally Harmon-I ized System of Classification and 1 Labeling of Chemicals (the GHS) has now been published by the United Nations (UN). The GHS, issued under the UN document number ST/SG/AC. 10/30 (Sales No. E.03.II.E.25), is published in a format similar to the well-known UN transport recommendations (often referred to as the "Orange Book") but with a purple cover (the "Purple Book"?) and is nearly 500 pages long. Publication of the GHS is the culmination of an effort spanning more than 10 years involving a number of groups and organizations, including the UN Sub-Committee on the Transport of Dangerous Goods.
