Transport Canada Rail Safety Rule Proposes Proof of Classification and Sampling Method Documentation

On January 11th, 2014, Transport Canada published in the Canada Gazette a proposed amendment to the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Regulations (TDG Regulations) titled Regulations Amending the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Regulations (Safety Standard TP14877: Containers for Transport of Dangerous Goods by Rail). Changes are proposed to improve the integrity of tank cars used to transport dangerous goods and enhance procedures for classification of dangerous goods. While primarily addressed to enhancing the safety of DOT-111 tank cars used to transport petroleum crude oil and products of similar hazard, certain provisions of the proposed amendment would apply to all modes of transport and shipping documents for all dangerous goods. Major provisions of the amendment are reviewed in the following sections.
