NCB Reports on the Pervasiveness of Non-Compliance and Calls for Action

In a recent white paper titled "A comprehensive holistic approach to enhance safety and address the carriage of undeclared, misdeclared, and other non-complaint dangerous goods," the National Cargo Bureau (NCB) highlights an increasing number of containership incidents that have been caused by non-compliance with regulations pertaining to the safe transportation of dangerous goods and containerized cargo. This increase is attributed to greater containerized cargo volumes, regulatory complexity, supply-chain complexity, and the rate of non-compliance found through their container inspection program and safety initiatives. Based on these findings, NCB is calling for urgent industry reform including adoption of holistic dangerous goods safety management principles that will help achieve a higher level of regulatory compliance.
