I Succeeded George Schmidt as the Editor-in-Chief (EIC) of the Journal of Guidance, Control, and Dynamics (JGCD) on 1 September 2013. I want to use this space to offer my congratulations and gratitude to George for his 17 years of distinguished service and leadership as the EIC of the Journal of Guidance, Control, and Dynamics! I had served continuously as an Associate Editor of the JGCD since January of 1996, and the appointment as the EIC has a very special meaning for me. As more than half of my archived papers have been published in the JGCD, this journal has been my professional home for over 20 years. But, beyond a personal level, what was entrusted in me with this appointment was the tremendous responsibility to maintain and enhance the quality, reputation, and influence of the JGCD. Last year was the 35th anniversary of the JGCD. In this relatively short time, the JGCD has grown to become the premier journal in aerospace guidance, control, and flight dynamics, and it is one of the leading journals in the general field of aerospace engineering. The hallmarks of the JGCD since its inception have been the high quality and clear application relevance of the papers published. It is our intention and determination that this fine tradition should continue.
