摘要

This Note describes an innovative methodology for representing safe flight envelopes and for analyzing the cause of incidents under symmetrical and asymmetrical icing conditions. The safety-spectra visualization of the predicted evolution of various flight parameters nicely illustrates what happens under the analyzed conditions. It could be a useful teaching tool, as it clearly illustrates the relationship between safety-related parameters and their limitations, as well as how quickly a given situation can devolve. Compared to the traditional method of proving real-time safety-related parameters and their limitations, the obtained safety space, which is constituted by the available bank angle, flight-path angle, and flight speed, has the potential to allow the flight crew to better plan the flight path in a strategic manner and to improve flight safety. The obtained safety space can be an auxiliary means to presenting flight risk in the entire operational space. In future studies, human factors (ergonomic) studies must also be accounted for to shed light on the extent of information to provide and its suitability for increasing situational awareness.
