摘要

The discussers were concerned about the soil type for the transitional behavior, which was first found for the gap-graded fine sand by Martins et al. (2001). This behavior was then widely observed in other soils, e.g., the gap-graded sand (Ferreira and Bica 2006), well-graded silty clay (Nocilla et al. 2006), and well-graded sands (Altuhafi et al. 2010; Altuhafi and Coop 2011). These soils (including clay, fines, and sands) belong to the fine granular soils with the particle size smaller than 2 mm. However, the work in the original paper obviously illustrated that the gravelly soils could also exhibit such transitional behavior because the critical-state line (CSL) was dependent on the initial void ratio. In order to validate this point, the drained triaxial compression tests on rockfill materials performed by Li (2016) were reanalyzed.
